Lacan Drawing: Yours for 10,000 euros

By way of Ken Reinhard, Le Monde reports that against the wishes of Lacan's estate a group of the Master's scribbled drawings and diagrams are going to be sold on June 30, 2006, by Artcurial, a Parisian auction house. If you thought that the image here was Leo's latest effort to master a particularly hard macrame knot in two dimensions - you're wrong! It is Lacan's drawing of a diagram demonstrating... hmmm... let me think about that one, the topography of subjectivity????

If you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, this may be a good buy. As to whether or not you'll unlock the key to the difference between the sexes by staring at these curlicues is another matter altogether! But good luck to the bidders, may the most devoted disciples win!

Maybe Lacan was thinking about the knot of subjectivity with these doddles - or perhaps he was watching the World Cup at the time & was trying to figure out the French team's tactical alignment?

Excellent interpretation! Perhaps there is an article in that?

Yes, definitely, might explain a lot of things! But why hasn't Zizek written on it yet?

I think the emptiness on the top right hand of the drawing is very significant...These drawings belong to a private party that has not shown them until now! If any were to write about it, it would be right now!

those borromean embarrassments are hilarious. if I was related to the performance artist and shrink, I'd want to hide them too. but on the other hand they might be worth the cash: then watch each drawing be torn in half between investors, quartered among heirs, torn to shreds in genet's inimitable manner by righteous third-generation lacanians, each remnant worth more than the original inane sum of all parts. the ultimate pyramid scheme is not the lacanian training analysis (which leads to being authorized to be paid by other analysts in training...) but the atomizing of lacan's napkin doodles! I am contacting the financial press right away.

What about the purple green blue color scheme? I think that is very radical! Was it magic marker or pencil? I can't tell.

Great headline at Le Figaro:
"À vendre, l'inconscient de Lacan"
