UCI and the Derrida Estate

Breaking News.....it is rumoured that the University of California Irvine has threatened to bring suit against the Derrida family for not turning over the rest of Derrida's archives to the Critical Theory Archive where Derrida had agreed to leave his papers. It may be that the family is having second thoughts about leaving the papers to UC Irvine, which is, after all, half a world away. IMEC , the French archive that houses the Foucault and Barthes papers may appear to be a more appropriate depository.

News of the possible suit has circulated among faculty here, but has not been publicly reported -- yet!

On a related topic, sort of, I thought of your as yet un-contracted book, The Suicide of an Assistant Professor (oh, just bc I loved your 1st novel so much...), when I read the news story referenced below (sorry, links not allowed). Amazing.... So when is the new novel coming out?

lazaro,

thanks for the support on the novel writing. Suicide is on a back burner...but the funny thing is, it is a roman a clef about an assistant prof's obsession with a famous french philosopher!

And I wonder who that French philospher might be! Could be part of the work of mourning.... I'll look forward to reading it one day. Your first one really marked an era for theoryheads, and the ensuing disdain for theory as it was understood.
